Halfling

Formerly one of the Sentient Races | Back to the Middle Realm

Halfling

  • Halflings are extinct. Collectively referred to as the Hyllken, the race was active in the Middle Realm approximately ten thousand years ago, before the dawn of man (or the rise of elf, depending on who you ask.) Until the Convergence, scattered ruins from their very tiny empires could be found in many places throughout the Middle Realm, including scattered tombs and ruins on the surface and extensive entombed remnants of cities and towers in the subterrane. Now these same ruins have a nasty habit of sometimes turning up smack dab in the middle of somewhere they shouldn’t be, and like all ruins – even very small ones – they often have their attendant share of mystery, dangerous creatures and the like.
  • Some have expressed surprise that an event of the magnitude of the Convergence didn’t somehow manage to sneak a few halflings back into reality, but such acts would have to be in the realm of whichever god all the dead halflings went to, and since the gods are no longer in the habit of poking around in the world, well…
  • No confirmed extinction event has been discovered. However, based on the charred and scraped condition of most of the remaining fossil remains, most surface theorists conclude the reason the Hyllken died out is that barbaric humans hunted them down and ate them. (Or that the elves created some kind of primitive magical apocalypse and burned them to death. Depends on who you ask.)
    • The underworld-dwellers know better, but the harshness of their living conditions has never given rise to anyone who might legitimately refer to themselves as a theorist, either.
      • Halflings are not a player race.
      • Halflings were “diminutive”, because “fine” is just too goofy-sounding.

Unfortunately, not even I can allow you to be born a member of an extinct species, young one. Pray find another of the Worlds to have originated from, or go back to Sentient Races.
